Drink plenty of water
Hydration is crucial for our lymphatic systems. One of the most common causes of lymphatic congestion is dehydration, and it can further exacerbate existing lymph problems. When we become dehydrated, very little fluid flows through our tissues and things can become stagnant. It is imperative that we keep the fluids flowing through our system to filter out toxins. Drinking sufficient water throughout the day encourages healthy lymphatic function as well as reduces water retention.
Exercise Regularly
While the human heart is responsible for pumping fresh blood throughout the body, physical activity is what causes lymph fluid to be squeezed through the vessels. During exercise, lymph is moved through our lymphatic system, and it serves the purposes of eliminating toxins, maintaining fluid balance, and transporting disease fighting white blood cells.
Maintain a nutrient rich diet
Prioritizing a healthy diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables and limiting the consumption of processed foods and beverages can improve overall health by supporting healthy detoxification, boosting the immune system and promoting optimal lymph function.
Receive manual lymphatic drainage massages
Lymphatic drainage massages are light touch, slow, and rhythmic movements that are applied to the skin to stimulate the lymphatic system and increase healthy neck stimulation. Lymphatic massages help to reduce swelling (known as edema), alleviate pain, assist with any needed drainage, and detoxify the body. They are also known to help with health conditions such as lymphedema and fibromyalgia.
Practice deep breathing exercises
When we take long, deep breaths, not only does the lymph flow more easily into the chyli, but it also flows more gently into the thoracic duct. Consequently, the lymphatic system improves with deep breathing.
Avoid exposure to toxic chemicals
Toxic chemicals such as pesticides or cleaning products can build up in our lymphatic systems as a result of frequent exposure, and it can make it harder for our bodies to filter out waste. When handling these products, it is best to wear a mask, not inhale them, and avoid using them for extended periods of time.
